A public limited company, in a financial services group operating in northern Europe. There are four business areas: Personal Banking, Business Banking, Large Corporates & Institutions, and Asset & Wealth Management. As a Significant Institution since the entry into force of European Banking Supervision, it is directly supervised by the European Central Bank.

A decision was made to outsource large parts of the infrastructure operations, however, staffing issues on the part of the outsourcing firm led to a loss of know-how. Additionally, configuration of hosts has been highly heterogeneous due to the amount of servers and the different teams working with them, which has been posing challenges to automation. Their huge and diverse ecosystem of servers affects the pace at which new technologies and features can be incorporated.

As Red Hat consultants, our cloudWerkstatt experts were asked to provide guidance and help to increase the knowledge base of the external outsourcing firm. In addition to this, we were responsible for migrating automation to Red Hat Ansible and to provide general SysAdmin consulting. As a result, the company now benefits from highly functional infrastructure operations as well as a higher degree of automation. In another project, we were tasked with supporting the maturing of Red Hat Enterprise Linux 9 following company standards and requirements. The provisioning automation was adjusted to also feature Red Hat Enterprise Linux 9 hosts according to the requirements, providing them with the option to profit from the enhanced security, stability and features of a new Red Hat Enterprise Linux version.
