In recent years, the use of container technology has become increasingly popular in the IT industry. Red Hat, a leading provider of open source software solutions, is at the forefront of this trend with its Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) container strategy.
What is a container strategy?
This helps enterprises develop and deploy container applications across their IT infrastructure. Red Hat’s container strategy is designed to provide a consistent platform for running such applications in different environments, such as open and hybrid clouds. It is based on a number of different components, including OpenShift, Kubernetes, and Red Hat Enterprise Linux.
- OpenShift: A container application platform that simplifies the deployment and management of container applications.
- Kubernetes: Are open source container orchestration systems that automate the deployment, scaling and management of container applications.
- Red Hat Enterprise Linux: An enterprise operating system that provides a stable and secure platform for running container applications.
Complex challenges
As one can imagine, such strategies are developed to solve a number of complex challenges.
As enterprises require more and more container applications, the number of containers that need to be managed also increases – and this can quickly become overwhelming.
To combat this, Red Hat has developed a number of management tools, such as Red Hat Ansible Automation. A tool used to automate the deployment and management of container applications.
The topic of security will always be a challenge that should be actively addressed. If containers are not properly and correctly secured, they are at great risk.
Some of Red Hat’s key technologies for this are Secure Container Images, Secure Container Runtime, and Monitoring Tools.
Interoperability is another challenge. Kubernetes has become a de facto standard in container orchestration, but there are other technologies from Google and Microsoft. Red Hat ensures here that compatibility between the different technologies is possible.
Red Hat’s container strategy is a comprehensive approach to developing, deploying, and managing container applications across the IT infrastructure.
Faced with a number of challenges, including managing container applications, ensuring security and interoperability, Red Hat has developed some technologies to help organizations overcome them and take full advantage of container technology in a variety of different environments.
